Just put one piece on the comforter and the other on the inside of the duvet. Doing this maybe in the corners and in the middle might work. That stuff usually sticks pretty good and you don't have to worry about a pin coming unhooked or snagging you expensive linens. Also if you sew it together your making future changes difficult.
