how can i get brown acrylic paint (oil based) out of my 90% cotton duvet?

i was painting a canvas on my bed and as i squeezed the tube of paint, it shot out of both ends, covering me and the bed (thankfully not the new beige carpet i had laid only a while ago.) I picked off the worst but obviously, rubbing it will smear it… Its not dried on… any suggestions??

If it is acrylic (which is water based) use soap and water- don’t let it dry until the paint is out. A bit of extender or gloss medium might help, but make sure you rinse well.

If it is truly oil based as you indicated (no such thing as oil acrylic) you will have to use a solvent. The good news is that cotton is pretty tough (but always test on a inconspicuous area). The bad news is that the pigment probably won’t come out all the way and your duvet might smell like a shop for a while. Whatever you do, do not put it in the dryer or you risk a fire and a damaged duvet. Good luck.

Turpentine/paint thinner will continue to thin it but to be honest, I don’t think you stand a chance of ever truly getting it out. BTW what were you thinking! Take it outside and protect all surfaces around your painting area.

Many painting accidents. You name it, I’ve gotten paint on it.

hope its not too late… white spirit or turpentine will clean it, hope you mean the cover right? The actual duvet will be too bulky to clean, but if its only the cover… over the sink, pour the white spirit on and when wash, keep repeating till its all gone
