Cotton Duvet Covers

Daughter’s birthday is coming up, need something a little more grownup but not a total budget buster?  How about an eye-popping display of color in the bedroom?

She loves hot pink but you just can’t bear the thought of painting those walls that color when you know it’s just a phase.  But, it really would thrill her to pieces to have that hot pink EVERYWHERE in the room.  It is after all, her room, she’s told you this at least a dozen times and a part of you does remember when you were her age and were just dying to paint your room orange.

Then again, you just spent a small fortune on a really high quality, nice neutral shade of tan, comforter for her bed. That ought to last until she’s in college.  Heck, she can probably even take it with her when she moves out and use it for another ten years.

Oh, but it is her birthday and you’re just completely out of surprises that amount to much of anything and she has talked about nothing else but re-decorating her room for months now.  What can you do?

Just grab yourself a really nice cotton duvet cover set, a pink duvet cover to be specific.  Really any fabric but cotton tends to keep the expense down and most cotton duvet covers are washable so this adds another practical benefit to the equation.  Stunning hot pink duvet cover, bottom fitted sheet, pillow cases, matching pillow shams and bed skirt!  No way she’ll not love that and you’re not stuck with hot pink walls from now until whenever you can find time to repaint later on.  When she decides to leave, the hot pink can go in the closet or right along with her to her college dorm room assuming she hasn’t moved on to a different color.  You can keep that fancy, shmancy comforter underneath it safe at home it you want too, until she learns to take better care of her things.  You know, just keep it nice, until she marries that nice young man you dream of for her.  Kind of a new version of the hope chest.

Okay, let’s not get crazy here…you get out of the pink paint on the walls and hours worth of labor, daughter thinks you’re the coolest mom ever and you can get tons of mileage out of reminding her of the moment she first saw the room makeover – no need to go overboard and control her whole life.

Finding a duvet cover set is too easy…they’re all over the Internet and they come in every color imaginable.   Much more affordable than a new comforter, even if she moves on to a color even more extreme next year it is easy to just change out the duvet cover set to the latest whim, maintain your cool mom status and keep the household budget firmly under control.  All the while the fancy comforter is snugly protected, silently doing it’s duty of providing warmth., enjoying untold years of added life since you don’t have to constantly clean it only to find a stain here and there that the cleaners just can’t erase no matter what they try (what is that anyway, motorcycle grease?).
